Raise TB awareness, make everyone agents of change: TB Proof risk report form
Mycobacterium Tuberculosis infection is a growing health concern internationally. In high prevalence areas - such as South Africa - health care workers are 2 to 6 times more likely to contract TB than the general population. This is mainly because of lack of awareness/advocacy and poor infection prevention and control in facilities.
As part of the TB Proof awareness and advocacy group this application - a shortcut to a google form - was developed to improve health care worker participation in reporting high risk TB situations and diversion from current best practice OR excellent implementation of TB infection prevention and control measures.
With ongoing participation and the ability to directly report to a database every health care worker will hopefully start recognizing problems and will therefore also adapt their high risk behavior and participate in finding solutions. Instead of having a TB infection prevention and control agent, every health care worker becomes an agent of change when using this tool.
Information collected with this app / tool can then be accessed real time to identify problem areas and by means of Quality Improvement Cycles the problems can be addressed to improve the infection risk.
We hope that it will increase awareness, increase knowledge, improve control measures which will all lead better health care facility environments that will reduce nosocomial and occupational TB infection and disease.
