8th National Spinal Cord Injury Conference – Sex, Gender and Health of Women
The 8th National SCI Conference promotes and embraces the diversity of human experience in terms of sex, sexuality and gender expression. We will promote unbiased methods and attitudes during the conference. For the purpose of the 8th National SCI Conference, the following terms will apply:
Sex: The biological features (i.e. physical and physiological) of humans and animals, usually categorized as female or male.1,2
Gender: The socially constructed behaviors, expressions and identities of women, men and gender-diverse people, such as norms, roles and relationships of and among genders in a particular culture or society.1,2
Health of Women: The ‘Health of Women’ refers to a broad set of issues concerning women’s health including, but not limited to, reproductive and hormonal health, access to quality health care, and disease conditions that are more common in women or may manifest differently in men and women.3
