The heart of the museum complex of Montefalco is the church of San Francesco, built between 1335 and 1338 by the Friars Minor. The church, with a rectangular plan is made up of a central nave that ends with a pentagonal apse, wonderfully frescoed by Benozzo Gozzoli with stories of life of San Francesco (1452), one of the most important Renaissance cycles entirely preserved.
Jacopo Vincioli, Giovanni di Corraduccio, Lethensidonio Spacca worked at the decoration of the lateral chapels, while the fresco in the counter -deal, Nativity with the Eternal in glory between two angels and the Annunciation, was made in 1503 by Pietro Vannucci called Perugino.
